Luxury Pegs Added To Calf Heath

Peg Upgrade Complete at Calf Heath Reservoir 🎣🔨

Over the weekend, the committee and bailiffs of Blackfords Progressive Angling rolled up their sleeves and carried out a major upgrade to six pegs at Calf Heath Reservoir.

Six of the eight wooden pegs have been raised by 500mm, with new steps added and handrails installed on every peg. This makes access far easier (and far safer), removing the safety concerns previously raised by members, bailiffs, and the committee alike. In short: less wobbling, more fishing.

The new platforms sit neatly above the old ones, and a huge thanks goes to Dave Bradbury, our very own in-house scaffolder. Dave not only supplied the scaffolding but also fitted it, his expertise made the job quicker, easier, and significantly more professional than “let’s just see if this works.”

Spence sourced the composite boards from Eurocell. Yes, it’s an expensive material, but with the way it’s been supported and secured (four fixings over a 1.8-metre length), these boards won’t move, rot, or bend. In fact, there’s a strong chance they’ll outlast us all.

A special mention must go to Gary, our in-house maintenance man and bailiff, for providing the dumper truck. There was absolutely no chance we were hand-balling all that equipment to the far end of the reservoir, our backs thank you, Gary.

John, our Chair, will now contact the Canal & River Trust to arrange for the water level at Calf Heath to be raised. Please allow time for the reservoir to refill before fishing along the wall pegs.

Blackfords will continue to invest in our waters to make them as accessible as possible, while still delivering the excellent fishing we’re proud of.

Please see the photos below to get an idea of what we got up to on Sunday and a big thank you to everyone who helped on the day.
