Blackfords Going Green!

Blackfords Going Green 🌱

Over the weekend, a couple of our hardworking members rolled up their sleeves and helped fit solar panels to the containers down at Kingswood. Thanks to their efforts, we now have light, power, and a battery that will trickle-charge the outboard motor for the boat  making feeding the fish at Kingswood a whole lot easier (and saving someone from a long row when the old petrol outboard dies).

A big thank you to Jerry and Colin for installing the solar panels, and an even bigger shout-out to Pav, who kindly provided the club with a metal frame to angle the panels properly, because even solar panels work better when they’re facing the right direction.

Winter pellets will be on sale over the coming weeks, so keep an eye out before the fish start giving you disappointed looks.

Elsewhere, we’ve also been busy at the Turf Pool, clearing rubbish left by the gate and removing a tree that was blocking the path near the out-of-bounds area. Huge thanks to Aarron and Dave for sorting that so quickly — paths are clear, and no trees were harmed unnecessarily (just the one).

Looking ahead, over the next few weeks the committee will be carrying out work at Calf Heath Reservoir. This includes replacing and repairing the wooden pegs, lifting them slightly and adding a step to reduce the drop, making life easier on knees, ankles, and dignity. We also plan to replace the old wooden decking with the same composite decking used on the Kingswood easy-access peg for a safer and longer-lasting finish.

As always, thanks to everyone who continues to give their time and effort to keep the waters in great shape the fish may not say it, but we know they appreciate it.
