2 Day Charity Event in aid of Prostate Cancer UK
Saturday/Sunday saw the second 2 day charity fishing and social event at Calf Heath Reservoir. The aim of this popular weekend is to help improve awareness relating to this terrible disease and at the same time raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
Well once again the Blackfords match guys and their family members did us all proud and at the final count a fantastic £1250 was raised. Before the draw on day one the anglers took a moment to reflect on the loss of two of our match group and dear friends in Dave Shaw and Clive James who both sadly passed after long battles against the dreaded disease.
After 2 days of friendly rivalry the anglers retreated to the onsite Greensforge Sailing Club house for the excellent spread that had been laid on by Wendy, Lulu and Mono. While everyone got well and truly fed Nev and Mark got down to finalising the results with a little help from long standing club secretary, Tom Ponder. After the presentation of the prizes and the hand over of the impressive Dave Shaw Memorial Trophy, it was then onto the ever popular raffle. The quality and variety of the prizes this year was so pleasing to say the least.
An event such as this can only work by everyone pulling together and with that in mind we would like to thank the following. firstly The Blackfords committee for endorsing the event, also Ian Cooper and the committee of the Greensforge Sailing Club for donating the use of their lovely club house for the presentation. As previously mentioned Wendy and the team put on an outstanding buffet for which we were all so grateful. Onto the much appreciated raffle donations and we would like to thank, Kevin Tipton and Emma Pickering and the team at Nytro, Danny Carter and Sonu Baits, Fabian and feederland, Fattys Tackle, vards Tackle, thanks also to John,Bob Mark and Derek for their bottle donations. Thanks also to Pork pie Brian’s wife for donating yes you’ve guessed it the Pork pies.A heartfelt thanks goes out to Pat Shaw and family for the lovely trophy and cash donation.Much appreciated cash donations were also received from Danny Plummer, Steve Preece, Mark Griffin,Mick Tonks and Gary and Lou Johnson.
