Calf Heath Revamp!

The first work party of 2025! This year we have a big job a head of us, bringing the fishing platforms up to standard at Calf Heath Reservoir. On Sunday we put a big dent in this Job. Revamping at least 20 pegs if not more. Thankyou to the thirty-four members that turned up on a cold winters day and braved the cold and put a right shift in! This wasn’t like one of our normal work parties where its a couple of hours and job done this was an all day job that involved some serious hard work, swinging sledge hammers, assembling scaffold and lumping around 3×2 heavy, old slabs.

The purpose of the work party is concentrate on make the fishing platforms safe, this involved making them level or completely rebuilding them. Access to the platforms was also area of concern so slabs have concreted in or even built on to scaffolding frames.  The members attending these work parties help keep the costs of the season ticket down, if it wasn’t for the volunteers we would have to contract the work out, which would run in to the thousands!

We are hopeful that one more work party (date to be confirmed) to finish work on the existing platforms. We also have a plans to to raise the pegs on the tins/ cottage side, so the step isn’t as steep down to the platform. As well as completely rebuild the platforms in composite decking (the same as the easy access peg at Kingswood). Blackfords committee are committed to making the pools as safe as possible, so all our members can enjoy fishing our pools for many more years to come. Keep an eye out on your Clubmate app and the Facebook page for the next work party.

Once again from the the whole of the Blackfords Committee, thankyou to those individuals who attended, it is much appreciated by all!
