The Lucky Escape!

This week on the Washery pool, a net was discovered by a local factory worker who was on a break from work. On discovery of the net he burnt the end with a lighter a began to pull the net in only to discover nine Carp and a Tench stuck with in the net. He then had to break the net with his hands ripping his hands to shreds. These nets are known as catch to kill nets, the more the fish struggles and tries to free itself the more the fish becomes entangled in the net, until the net completely covers the gills, which unfortunately results in the fish effectively drowning. Luckily the carp were all returned alive. However, unfortunately we lost the Tench. These nets are now becoming more accessible on sites such as Temu, Alibaba, etc.

This net was obviously put out to catch fish for eating purposes and could do some serious damage to our fish stocks. We were sent this video by one of our members who then notified one of our committee members. The main purpose of this post is to make our members aware that our fish are been targeted by poachers.

The committee would now ask if all members can check around the pegs for lines entering the water when fishing. And if you have any free time to walk around the lakes this would help the committee immensely. If you do see anything suspicious please report it immediately to the bailiff team or the committee if you have no contact numbers message the Facebook page. The bailiffs have now come up with routers to make sure that all pools are patrolled effectively as possible. We will also be increasing our bailiff patrols by adding two new bailiffs to the existing bailiff team.

While on patrols, two of bailiffs bumped into the factory worker who saved the fish, we have found out that he is angler who use to fish the lake before our club took on the fishing rights. The committee would like to say a big thankyou to Nathan who was able to save these fish and our club sectary  has now offered him a complimentary ticket for the rest of the season as a token gestor. Please take a look at the video showing Nathan ripping the net to free the entangled fish. Excuse any language used with in the video but Nathan was just as wound about the situation as we all probably are watching the footage.

Feel free to share the video with other clubs and anglers.

Many Thanks BPAS Committee
