Matt’s First Leacroft Carp

14 year old Matt Dixon recently landed his first Leacroft mirror at an impressive 23lb 5oz…which explains the smile! I herd about this capture back in May and wanted to post the report then but I have only just got the picture so here goes…better late than never…

A few of the bailiffs tell me Matt spends a fair bit of time up at Leacroft and he hasn’t had much luck of late…until he recently decided to give float fished maggots a try which resulted in this cracking 23lb 5oz mirror. Not only did Matt catch his first Leacroft carp but he also caught it pre-spawning at it highest ever recorded weight! Rob Archer caught this fish a few weeks later post spawning at 20lb 1oz…that’s carp fishing for you! I personally have caught this carp a few times, interestingly the first time was 4 years back at 17lb 9oz so it’s growing steadily like many of the Leacroft Carp. This really illustrates the importance of the time of year if you wish to catch carp at their best weights…so well done to Matt well deserved…cracking carp at it’s top Weight!
